A sudden turn in the case of convicts. “I will do it, fully aware of the tragedy”
Andrzej Duda announced he would pardon Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik again.
Representatives of the Chancellery of the President have repeatedly assured that Andrzej Duda will not pardon Maciej Wąsik and Mariusz Kamiński again. The main argument was that the president considers the first pardon from 2015 binding. However, it turns out that the head of state changed his mind about the repeated pardon, emphasizing that the first pardon is still in force.
– I will do it, fully aware of the tragedy of this situation. Also for the office of the President of the Republic of Poland. Fully aware (…) It will be brutal force against the law that I represent. This is my personal belief – says the president in an interview for “Super Express”.
Will Kamiński and Wąsik be released? President Duda’s move
The head of state argues that he is doing this to save Law and Justice politicians. Andrzej Duda drew attention to the hunger strike carried out by the convicts and expressed his wish for it to be stopped. He explains that if this can only happen thanks to his signature, he is ready to do it again.
– If this can only be stopped by me simply pardoning them again to simply save them, I will do it, Andrzej Duda said.
Kaczyński wanted Kamiński and Wąsik released. Duda: I will pardon you
The president’s words come shortly after Jarosław Kaczyński sent a clear message to him. The statement of the president of Law and Justice almost escaped the cameras. – I hope that the president will decide and finally free himself, because with the method he used, it may last another year – admitted the politician. There have been speculations that Kaczyński is dissatisfied with Andrzej Duda’s actions so far. The president’s advisor also commented on the statement?
Recently, there have been many reports about the health condition of convicted PiS politicians who are in custody. Maciej Wąsik’s lawyer said that the inmate takes fluids, but – as he emphasizes – “the situation is difficult”. – When it comes to contact with the outside world, it is very limited. This is strictly rationed, Minister Wąsik can see his family once a month – the attorney told Onet.
How do Kamiński and Wąsik feel?
A day earlier, Mariusz Kamiński’s defense attorney, attorney Michał Zuchmantowicz, referred to the decision issued by the District Court in Radom regarding forced feeding, calling it “groundless and blank.” – We filed a complaint against this decision – he said.
On Monday, Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar assured that the case files and his opinion would be delivered to the president within a few days. For now, it is not known whether the head of state received documents in this matter. So far, there has been no indication that Bodnar has decided to grant Kamiński and Wąsik a break from serving their sentences.
– I consider it a brutal way of presenting the case – this is how Duda commented in an interview on the fact that the convicts are still in custody. When asked when PiS politicians would return home, the president expressed hope that it would happen “as soon as possible.”
