About getting sick the human way: Find your way in chronic disease

On February 10, on the eve of the World Day of the Sick, the second edition of the free online conference “On getting sick in a human way”, organized by the People i Medycyna Foundation, will be held in Warsaw.

Specialists and practitioners from various fields will share their knowledge and experience with participants of the free online conference “About getting sick as a human being”. The date was not chosen accidentally, because on the eve of the World Day of the Sick, which draws attention to the needs of all sick people and emphasizes the need to provide them with the best possible care.

Conference participants will receive a good portion of knowledge from doctors, psychologists, researchers and people dealing with chronic diseases, which they will be able to use in practice and improve the quality of their lives.

The speakers will be both patients – experts by experience and specialists in given fields. – They will share their knowledge and experience to help you understand how to effectively manage your health in your everyday life. We invited special guests, including: Jakub Kosikowski, spokesman of the Supreme Medical Chamber, Łukasz Krasoń – Secretary of State, Government Plenipotentiary for Disabled People, Agnieszka Matan – patient and stand-up comedian, Katarzyna Lipka – analyst from the “Przeciwdziałamy Dezinformacji” Foundation – announces Joanna Twardak from the People and Medicine Foundation, leader of the Tame the disease project.

– The idea of our conference is to give a voice to people who have the greatest contact with the subject of illness – patients who experience chronic diseases and people who accompany them. We are guided by the idea of promoting self-advocacy, we want to encourage as many sick people as possible to talk about their experiences. Thanks to this, they not only directly help people with similar experiences, but also normalize the issue of illness. What's more, it's not so much about being sick, but about living with the disease, and sometimes despite it. That is why we invite to our stage not only specialists – doctors, psychologists, etc., but above all people living with chronic diseases – says Alicja Sekret, Leader of the Patients to Patients project.

During the conference, topics will include, among others: topics: chronic disease and relationships, patient rights, searching for reliable information in the digital era, chronic disease and work – what challenges we face in professional life and how to deal with them.

– You can find something for yourself in each thematic block. Many of us, patients, struggle with problems resulting from suffering from a chronic disease, were fooled by a false expert advertising on the Internet, were wondering about applying for a disability degree or were hesitant to start treatment for chronic pain. , or wait, because maybe it doesn't hurt enough yet. These are the questions that run through the minds of both patients and their loved ones that we want to answer during our conference, says Helena Butkiewicz from the People and Medicine Foundation, leader of the Sources project.

Participation in the conference is free of charge, available online, interpreted in sign language. Additional registration is required for stationary workshops. The event program and registration form are available at: nazwaimedycyna.pl/konferencja-2024.
