Additional lanes on the A2 between Łódź and Warsaw. Finally, there are some facts

An almost 90-kilometer section of the A2 motorway will be widened, from the Łódź Północ junction to the Konotopa junction. This will create a third lane. From Pruszków to Konotopa, the expressway will have four lanes in each direction.

Drivers are impatiently waiting for the expansion of the A2 motorway between Łódź and Warsaw. The expressway, opened in 2012, is one of the most congested road sections in Poland. The average daily traffic between Łódź and Warsaw ranges from over 50,000 to nearly 100,000 vehicles. It should be assumed that due to access to the planned Central Communication Port, it will increase even further.

A year and a half to develop the project

The expansion of the A2 motorway on an 89-kilometer section has entered the first design phase. On Wednesday, August 30, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways signed an agreement with Databout from Warsaw, which will prepare design documentation for the widening of the A2 motorway with additional lanes between Łódź and Warsaw. In addition to widening the route, engineers from Databout will present pioneering solutions that will make the modernized route energy self-sufficient in the future. They have 18 months to complete this task.

During the expansion, there will be two lanes in each direction

GDDKiA announced that a tender for construction works is to be announced in the third quarter of 2025. At the same time, it announced that for the entire duration of the expansion of the 89-kilometer section, two lanes will be available for each direction: towards Warsaw and Poznań. The modernization of the A2 between Łódź and Warsaw may even last until the end of this decade.
