After the attack on Fico, the journalist talked about shooting the Belgian Prime Minister.  A scandal broke out

After the assassination of Robert Fico, the presenter of the Belgian radio station Waregem1 talked about the shooting of Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. The head of government files a complaint.

– To all those who are considering shooting Alexander De Croo but do not dare to do so for the safety of this guy. You see, you can shoot the Prime Minister. So I would say: go ahead, the presenter said on Waregem1.

The presenter's words were spoken shortly after the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, was seriously injured in the attack. Other influential politicians also received death threats at that time. One of the messages was made public by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Alexander De Croo files a complaint

Prime Minister Alexander De Croo filed a complaint following the presenter's words. – Freedom of speech is sacred, but incitement to violence is punishable – he said.

After the incident, the Belgian radio station issued a statement saying that the presenter's words were a joke. He himself also apologized for them. – I sincerely regret it and if Prime Minister De Croo agrees, I would like to join a mediation meeting – he said.

The prosecutor's office is already handling the case. Moreover, according to the media, the presenter was allegedly suspended by the director of the radio station, Ludo Daelman, who, according to him, “completely misjudged the time and context.”

The campaign in Belgium is in full swing

Despite the tensions, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo continues his election campaign. There is less than a month left until the key elections.

On June 9, together with the European Parliament elections, federal and regional elections will be held in Belgium. In the first of them, members of the House of Representatives and the Senate will be elected. In the latter – to the Flemish Parliament, the Walloon Parliament, the Brussels-Capital Parliament and the Parliament of the German-speaking Community.
