Aneta Poznańska, Novartis: We care about women's health, let's focus on prevention

If only 30% use mammography. women, it means that something is wrong in our system. I would like not only companies like ours to strive to discover an effective drug that will cure breast cancer, but also for us as a society to be more responsible when it comes to our health and simply get tested – says Aneta Poznańska, Country Head of Communications and Engagement Novartis Poland.

Katarzyna Pinkosz, Wprost: SheO is a celebration of women who have achieved success: professionally and in life. During the SheO gala, we also talk a lot about women's health. Is this an important topic for Novartis? Does the company's portfolio include modern medicines created for women?

Aneta Poznańska, Novartis: The topic of women's health is very important to us. It couldn't be otherwise; There are more women than men working in our company, and there are also more of us on the management board. Women also constitute the majority of Polish society. They also play a very important role when it comes to taking care of their own health, but also that of their families and friends. Women are often the ones who motivate us to take care of ourselves, get examined and check whether the treatment is appropriate.

As a company, we try to respond to challenges regarding women's health. Women often suffer from breast cancer, which is why Novartis has been very active in this area for over 30 years.

We are trying not only to make metastatic breast cancer a chronic disease (thanks to new, effective drugs), but we are also increasingly talking about what to do to eliminate breast cancer altogether or stop its development.

The second area worth talking about when it comes to women's health is multiple sclerosis. It is a disease of young people, often women, between 20 and 50 years of age. The third area is cardiac diseases, which are a problem for our society: as a company, we also try to look for therapeutic solutions in these areas.

Today we also talk a lot about breast cancer: what to do to stop the trend of excess deaths of Polish women due to breast cancer. Despite medical advances, many women still die from it: too many?

First of all, this cancer is diagnosed too late in Poland: patients who see a doctor often already have metastases. Unfortunately, medicine is not yet able to offer a drug that could cure cancer if it has already metastasized.

First of all, the topic of prevention and preventive examinations should be publicized.

In Poland, it is possible to perform them, but, for example, only about 30% of people use mammography. women. This means that something is wrong in our system.

I wish that not only companies like ours would strive to discover a drug that will cure breast cancer, but also that as a society we would be more responsible when it comes to our health and simply get tested.
