Apple has been waiting 14 years for this move. It's about... a calculator

The speculations were confirmed. During today's Worldwide Developers Conference, it announced that it will finally release a dedicated Calculator app for the iPad. It will appear 14 years after the premiere of the first generation of this device.

The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 took place on Monday, June 10. During this conference, Apple's most important plans for the near future are presented, usually regarding new software updates for devices.

Apple has finally decided on a calculator

During today's conference, it was announced that Apple will finally release a dedicated Calculator app for iPad. The new default calculator will be available on iPads with the update to iPadOS 18. We write “finally” because the iPad calculator will appear 14 years after the premiere of the first generation of this device. Until now, users had to download calculators through the App Store from other developers.

The new application may resemble the calculator known from iOS. But it also supports Apple Pencil, which means there's the ability to write down math problems that the app will solve thanks to a feature Apple calls Math Notes.

The appearance of the Calculator application on iPad is not too much of a surprise, as it has been speculated for some time that the application will appear on Apple tablets this year.

iPadOS 18 also includes a feature called Smart Script, which will make it easier to read handwriting (even for people who write like a chicken with a claw).

– With iPadOS 18, Calculator with Math Notes and new inking tools in Notes come to iPad. All this designed with Apple Pencil in mind. iPad users now have more ways to configure the Home screen and Control Center – says Apple.
