Belarus’s bizarre response to Sikorski’s words. It’s about closing the border

Sikorski responded to Pope Francis. Strong reaction from the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Radosław Sikorski did not rule out that Poland would soon close the last two border crossings with Belarus. The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs responded to such a declaration. – We must understand that migration flows do not depend on decisions of this type – he said.

Currently, there are only two road border crossings operating on the Polish-Belarusian border – Terespol-Brest and Kukuryki-Kozłowicze. The remaining four are closed not only due to the situation at the border, but also as a gesture of protest against Andrzej Poczobut being held in prison. It is possible that the last two open crossings will also be closed soon, as Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski said.

This declaration was met with a reaction from the Belarusian authorities. Belsat quotes the statement of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Siarhei Alenik, who stated that if Poland closes the border crossings, there will be an “escalation” and both sides will suffer. – It should be understood that these appeals and these proposals are directed not only against Polish citizens and Polish regions, and the economic development of Polish regions. But also against many other citizens of the EU, CIS and so-called Greater Eurasia, he explained.

Belarusian minister calls for talks

According to Alejnik, closing border crossings will not stop migration. – We must understand that migration flows do not depend on decisions of this type. Because migrants today use illegal border crossing routes, not legal border crossings. And they are fleeing from those countries where Poland participated in military operations not so long ago, said a representative of the Belarusian regime.

As Belsat notes, Aleynik did not mention that the migrants are supported by Belarusian services, and Belarus and Russia allow them into their territory. He stated that “in these conditions, the only way to de-escalation is the path of dialogue.” – If Poland is ready for it, for example on border issues or border cooperation, which were interrupted on the initiative of the Polish side and other European partners, we are ready. discuss these topics, he said.
