Chemist’s defeat, Construction’s promotion. Polish changes in the CEV Cup

Grupa Azoty Chemik Police is the current leader of the Tauron League. Marco Fenoglio’s team was defeated only once, when it lost at home to ŁKS Commercecon Łódź. Now, however, he has suffered two defeats, which resulted in his elimination from the fight for the CEV Cup.

Chemik Police is eliminated from the European cups

The very fact that Chemik competed in the CEV Cup and not the Champions League was a surprise. This is the result of a poor previous season, which ended in fifth place. In the second-tier European Cup, the Policzanka team was supposed to start the competition with a two-match match against Hapoel Kfar Saba, but due to the conflict in Israel, the Polish team was promoted by walkover. Marco Fenoglio’s team defeated BKS Bostik ZGO Bielsko-Biała in the next round to play against Italian Chieri. The fifth club of the previous Serie A season turned out to be too strong.

The Italians first won at home 3-1, and on Thursday they completed the formalities by triumphing in Szczecin (where Chemik plays its home games) 3-2. One of the executioners turned out to be Kaja Grobelna. The Polish-born Belgian representative scored 19 points for Chieri. Her team, the winner of the Challenge Cup last season, will play against Volero Le Cannet in the next phase.

Grot Budowlani Łódź will also take part in the CEV Cup. This is due to taking third place in the Champions League group. Thanks to this, the bronze medalists of Tauron Liga were placed in 1/4 of the second-tier competition. They will play in the semi-finals against French Beziers.

Budowlani and Chieri continue to fight in the CEV Cup

Chemik Police is first in the Tauron League table, and Grot Budowlani Łódź is in fifth place. The Grobelna club (Olivia Różański played there last year) has collected 22 points in the current Serie A season, which gives it fifth place. They are 13 points behind the leaders from Conegliano (Joanna Wołosz’s club).
