Construction of a new port begins. “Key importance for offshore energy”

The construction of an offshore terminal in Świnoujście will begin on Wednesday, which will serve as an installation base for wind turbines installed in the Baltic Sea. – This port is of fundamental importance for offshore wind energy – said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Marek Gróbarczyk.

According to Minister Gróbarczyk, the port in Świnoujście is necessary because if such an investment were not made, parts for the construction of offshore wind farms would have to be imported from the Danish island of Bornholm or from German ports.

– The port’s completion date is correlated with the construction of the first wind farms, which will start producing electricity at the end of 2025 from the first offshore field developed by Orlen – said the deputy minister.

In September, the ORLEN Group selected the contractor for the onshore part of the installation terminal for offshore wind farms. Construction works will start in October and will be completed at the turn of 2024 and 2025. Ultimately, the terminal will enable the installation of over 80 offshore wind turbines per year and will be able to handle the Baltic Power project and other planned wind investments.

The land part of the installation terminal, for which ORLEN Neptun is responsible, will be built in the port of Świnoujście, on an area of ​​nearly 20 ha. Its role will be the reloading and storage of key components of offshore wind turbines, such as towers, blades and nacelles.

The terminal will also be able to accept superstructures of marine transformer stations, weighing up to 24,000 tons. The project will also include the construction of communication infrastructure and new workshop, administrative and office buildings. The investment in Świnoujście will be conveniently connected by all means of transport: rail, ferry, air and road. Ultimately, the terminal will serve approximately one hundred employees. The investment contractor is Budimex.
