Dead sperm whale on the Scottish coast. He had 100 kilograms of garbage in his stomach

A ball of garbage weighing 100 kilograms was pulled from the stomach of a dead sperm whale. The carcass of the animal was found on the shores of Luskentyre Beach in north-west Scotland. The Marine Animal Stranding Scheme organization shared the recording and photos on its Facebook profile.

In the photos shown by activists, we can see a variety of garbage, but mainly fishing nets, various types of ropes and a whole range of plastic items. The latter are dominated by plastic cups, bags and tubes. As ecologists emphasize, all this constituted a compact 100-kilogram ball and was located in the animal’s stomach.

“Some of the trash looked like it had been there for a while. This amount of plastic is terrifying. It must have interfered with digestion, said one of the organization’s representatives. He added that the general condition of the animal was good, no signs of any disease were discovered, so it was the garbage that probably contributed to its death.

On the occasion of this sad discovery, activists reminded about the danger posed by dead sea creatures. People were urged not to approach whales or dolphins seen on beaches, as they may transmit various diseases that also affect humans.
