Deadly riots before the Champions League match. The meeting has been cancelled

Looking at the potential of the players of AEK Athens and Dinamo Zagreb, it would seem that these two teams can create one of the most even elimination pairs at the third round of the fight for the Champions League. And so it will probably be, although unfortunately, it started with tragic news about riots between hooligans of both clubs.

AEK Athens fan dies, el. Champions League cancelled!

According to foreign media, the riots allegedly took place on the night of Monday to Tuesday, i.e. less than a day before the scheduled match. Up to 150 fans of the club from Zagreb were to reach Athens. Unfortunately, they came across a large group of hooligans from Athens. It took place shortly after the end of the training of visitors from Croatia, near the stadium where the match was to be played on Tuesday.

However, the meeting was cancelled. As a result of the clash of feuding fan groups, one of the AEK fans died. The police were to detain a total of almost 100 people involved in the clash between supporter groups. A 22-year-old man who lost his life was allegedly stabbed several times.

In addition, both groups threw pyrotechnics and stones at each other, there were fisticuffs, ten people were seriously injured. Both clubs have decided that after such events Tuesday’s match cannot take place. The match was officially canceled in agreement with UEFA. A new date has not been set.

Raków Częstochowa enters the game of dreams

At the same stage of the Champions League game as AEK and Dinamo are the players of the best team in Poland in the 2022/23 season. Rakow Czestochowa will play in the third round with Aris Limassol.
