Hackers impersonated Mariusz Błaszczak. The Ministry of National Defense reports the matter to Twitter

The unknown perpetrators allegedly impersonated Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak on Twitter. The scammers used the politician’s image for their own purposes, and the Ministry of National Defense immediately contacted the website in order to stop the practice. What did the fake minister say?

In recent days, a message allegedly coming from the Minister of Defense has spread on the Twitter platform. It informed about the “restoration of compulsory military service for all citizens”. Less attentive Internet users could fall for the message prepared by people impersonating Mariusz Błaszczak. However, the hackers revealed the details, and the Ministry of National Defense quickly took care of the case.

Hackers impersonated Mariusz Błaszczak

“Due to the expansion of the Armed Forces, together with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, I decided to restore compulsory military service for all citizens. For the first time, women will be appointed to it as part of the ‘Stronger than many’ programme. The draft amendment to the act will go to the Sejm,” reads the message of the fake account.

For a disguise, the name of the profile “Mariusz Błaszczak” and the profile picture of the minister were displayed. However, this is where the similarities end, because the account name is @Bechatka, which quickly reveals the trick. The real profiles are @mblaszczak and @MON_GOV_PL. What’s more, the decision from the entry can only be made by the President of the Republic of Poland, not the head of the Ministry of National Defence.

MON reports a fake to Twitter

After the fake information was reported and publicized by Cyberdefence24, the Ministry of National Defense acted quickly. Soon, the account spreading the information – @Bechatka – was temporarily suspended. This is the result of the Twitter administration’s action after being reported by the Ministry of Defence.

Moreover, the authorities were to notify the “relevant services” and the “Government Plenipotentiary for the Security of the Information Space of the Republic of Poland” – Stanisław Żaryn. “The Ministry of National Defense monitors the information environment on an ongoing basis and reacts to disinformation activities (fake news)” – reads the official position of the Operations Center of the Ministry of National Defense.
