He made up for the loss and won the match. An important win for Hurkacz

Hubert Hurkacz is already in the 4th round of the Australian Open. The Pole defeated Ugo Humbert in four sets, although he lost the first one. He equalized the best result with AO.

Hubert Hurkacz is in good shape at the beginning of the 2024 season. The Pole looked solid during the United Cup, and now he shows it through his results at the Australian Open. The best tennis player from Poland advanced to the fourth round of the Grand Slam competition in Melbourne. He defeated Ugo Humbert 3:6, 6:1, 7:6, 6:3, which allowed him to equal his best result from last year.

Hubert Hurkacz with losses at the beginning of the match

The beginning of the match was not impressive for the Polish representative. He had trouble getting into the match, especially serving well. He often made mistakes or gave his opponent an opportunity to score points on his serve. Humbert, ranked 20th in the ATP ranking, is a man who can take advantage of such situations. Despite this, there was no breakthrough at first. This happened only in the sixth game. Hurkacz tried to make up for the loss in the next one, even playing on the advantage, but ultimately had to accept defeat in the set 3:6.

The Pole was not devastated by the defeat and, at the beginning of the second set, he started chasing after equalizing the competition. Already in the second game he broke his opponent, showing his power. Having a few games advantage up his sleeve, he could play with great calm, and in the case of the Pole, this meant a calmer head and an even better disposition. In total, he won five games in a row. He later gave one to the Frenchman, but ultimately won 6:1.

The Polish representative’s nerves of steel

Looking at the second set and the course of the next one, it seemed that Hurkacz remained calm and would win the next set at an equally fast pace. This could be confirmed by the 5:3 lead, where he was two balls away from ending the game. But then the Frenchman started to make up for the losses, taking advantage of the moment of crisis for the ninth tennis player in the world. Humbert made up for the games, leading to a tie-break. In it, the Pole finally woke up, winning confidently 7:4.

It seemed that the fourth set would be even. Even if Hurkacz won the opening game, Humbert won the second game after an advantage play. The breakthrough was the fourth game. On the Frenchman’s serve, the players fought for a few minutes before the game. Every now and then the Pole gained an advantage and the opponent equalized. The player born in Wrocław won it only after the fourth break point. Afterwards it was much calmer. Hurkacz maintained his advantage, winning 6:3.

Hubert Hurkacz will play with Artur Cazaux
