Hołownia responded to Czarzasty’s accusation. “If I had to say it stronger – I’m lying”
Szymon Hołownia responded to the accusation from Włodzimierz Czarzasty. The idea is to block bills that would legalize abortion on demand. – If they are blocked by anyone, it is by the Left Club itself – said Hołownia.
Last Monday, February 19, one of the leaders of the Left, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, criticized the leader of Poland 2050, Szymon Hołownia, and the leader of the Polish People’s Party, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
What did Czarzasty accuse his coalition partners of?
Czarzasty accused them of blocking bills submitted by the Left to legalize abortion on demand up to the 12th week of pregnancy.
– I will not take responsibility for the fact that the bills we submitted on the first day in the Sejm are blocked by Szymon Hołownia and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. I’m personally fed up with this. Gentlemen, you are blocking women’s rights, just to be clear – commented Czarzasty in the “Fakty po Faktach” program on TVN.
Hołownia referred to Czarzasty’s words
On Tuesday, February 20, Hołownia referred to these words during a press conference held in the Sejm building. During his speech, Hołownia stated directly that Czarzasty was lying.
– The answer is sad for me. Marshal Czarzasty, whom I respect very highly and personally like him very much, is incorrect in his assessment of the situation. If I were to say it more strongly, without beating around the bush as is customary in such situations – I’m lying. There is no blocking by anyone of the bills submitted by the Left Club. And if they are blocked by anyone, it is by the Left Club itself. I have a special summary here that shows (…) how the work schedule on these projects was carried out – said the Marshal of the Sejm.
How were the Left’s projects processed?
He explained that the Left had submitted two bills. The first one concerns the amendment of the Penal Code, which provides for the decriminalization of the crime of performing an abortion with the consent of the pregnant woman or providing assistance in performing an abortion.
Hołownia noted that the Left submitted an amendment to the project and then delayed supplementing the justification.
– Here we have the date of receipt of this project, which is November 16, 2023. But an amendment to this project is submitted on November 23 by the applicants (…). When an auto-amendment is submitted, we have to wait another week for the preliminary analysis, because this is the procedure. On November 28, we will send a request to supplement the justification. When does this justification come? January 17, after almost two months. Are we freezing the laws written by the Left? – continued the Marshal of the Sejm.
Hołownia: Włodek, you are wrong
The situation is similar in the second case, i.e. the draft “act on safe termination of pregnancy”, which is to legalize abortion on demand up to the 12th week of pregnancy.
Hołownia added that Czarzasty has not raised any objections so far as to the manner of proceeding with the above-mentioned draft bills.
– On November 22, my office sent (…) a request to supplement the justification. When was it received (…)? After exactly two months, on January 24. Then the consultation deadline, which expired on February 4. Today we are in a situation in which – and I say this with great regret – I can say to Marshal Czarzasty: Włodek, you are wrong. Włodek, you are wrong. (…) So I don’t know where these accusations come from. (…) This type of speech does not serve our coalition well, and I say this with full responsibility – commented the Marshal of the Sejm.
