Iga Świątek defeated the Russian and could have broken the record. We know how much was missing

Iga Świątek quickly defeated Anastazja Potapova in the fourth round of Roland Garros. The Pole almost played the fastest match in the history of the tournament.

Iga Świątek needed only 40 minutes to defeat Anastazja Potapova. The match between the Pole and the Russian ended with the score 6:0, 6:0. Only 58 points were played, of which 48 went to the leader of the world ranking and the defending champion. Our player played the fastest match in her professional tour career. Of course, we are talking here about meetings that took place over the full distance – without lines.

Świątek close to Steffi Graf

Additionally, we are dealing with… the second shortest match in the history of Roland Garros, as reported by the portal sport.tvp.pl. 40 minutes of the fight between Świątek and Potapova means that only the match between Steffi Graf and Natasza Zvereva is higher in this classification. I'm talking about the Roland Garros final in 1988, when the German defeated her rival 6-0, 6-0 and needed only… 32 minutes.

This does not change the fact that the Polish representative was only 8 minutes away from equaling the legendary record set by Graf. Her feat is even more amazing because it took place in a title fight.

Świątek matches at opposite poles

There is no doubt that we will not be bored during the Świątek matches in this year's edition of Roland Garros. The Pole came to Paris as the main favorite to win, but already in the second round she had to sweat a lot to defeat Naomi Osaka. The Japanese played great tennis and caused the Raszyn team to be one step away from being eliminated from the event.

Ultimately, our tennis player triumphed 7:6 (1), 1:6, 7:5. In the third game she was already losing 2:5 and 0:30, but she returned to the match and won. Then came an interesting match with Marie Bouzkova and finally a duel with Potapova, where the fans were just waiting to see if the Russian would win at least one game. However, she had no arguments for this. Now Świątek faces the quarterfinals, in which she will face Marketa Vondrousova. The competition starts on Tuesday around 12:30.
