Mateusz Morawiecki: Hołownia was supposed to be an alternative, but it is a springboard for Tusk

On Friday, January 12, former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki appeared in the program “Guest of Radio Zet”. He was asked to comment on the recent actions of the new government in relation to MPs Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik.

At the very beginning of the conversation on Radio Zet, PiS vice-president Mateusz Morawiecki admitted that early elections are currently not a good solution. At the same time, however, he did not have any good words about the new government. Discussing the detention of MPs Kamiński and Wąsik, he spoke about “political prisoners” and argued that Poland under Donald Tusk’s rule is becoming more like Belarus.

Morawiecki about the Olympics and Duda’s exit

– This is a kind of political retaliation – he said, summing up the whole matter of punishing the MPs and taking away their mandates. – The Games are intended to divert attention to the fact that nothing is happening except for promises and specifics – he added. He also assessed the statements of PO MPs regarding this matter. – They use such contortions, such terminological gymnastics, to admit, on the one hand, that the law is being broken, but that it is necessary to restore the rule of law – he said.

The former prime minister defended President Duda’s decision to initiate the pardon procedure against PiS politicians. – This is not an admission of error, it is Solomon’s solution to the situation. He made the right decision, argued Morawiecki. – That decision is important – he emphasized, adding that the new pardon took place “only because of the violation of the law and constitution by our opponents.” – What the president did is the most appropriate approach at this moment – he assured.

Morawiecki: We will not fight with the Marshal’s Guard

Mateusz Morawiecki added that Wąsik and Kamiński are still MPs. He criticized the attitude of the Speaker of the Sejm in the entire process of taking away politicians’ mandates. – Mr. Marshal Hołownia, instead of an alternative, is a political springboard for Donald Tusk. It is the law that decides who is an MP or not. In my deepest belief, they are still MPs, he repeated.

When asked about further moves by Law and Justice, the party’s vice president announced that politicians would return to work. – As soon as they leave prison, they have the right to sit in the Sejm and vote. I would definitely like to introduce them, he said. He also announced that PiS representatives “will not fight with the Marshal’s Guard.” – We will show documents showing that we have the right to do so and we will expect the implementation of this right so that they can fulfill their mandate – he said.
