Michał Probierz spoke after the match against France. He indicated what was most important to him
The Polish national team ended its participation in Euro 2024 on a positive note. Michał Probierz’s players drew 1-1 with France. The selector shared his impressions of the entire tournament.
After defeats by the Netherlands (1:2) and Austria (1:3), we knew that the Polish national team would be eliminated from Euro 2024 after the group stage. There was a fear that the team led by Michał Probierz would end the competition without any points, because in the last round the white and reds played against France, the current vice-champion of the world. Our players were not afraid of a strong rival.
Probierz spoke. He summed up the tournament
We drew 1-1, which is a positive note at the end of the event in Germany. Michał Probierz was satisfied with the style presented by the Poles. However, he still remembers the loss against Austria, which resulted in his elimination from the tournament.
– We knew what group we were in. We certainly didn’t expect this match against Austria to go so badly. However, you can see that the group was actually strong, but we tried to play football. I would like to thank the fans who strongly supported us. We managed to get a point off. This is a prognosis for the future that you can take on any rival – said Michał Probierz in an interview with TVP Sport.
A moment later, the coach decided to point out an issue that was crucial for him in the context of further work with the team. And this, of course, will take place, as confirmed by the Polish Football Association.
– For me personally, the most important thing is that everyone plays in their clubs. We had big problems with the training camp. One or two players dropped out at key moments before the matches. Today we knew we were out, but we also took a risk. I knew Kuba Moder could play in the number six position. I would like to thank the people from the staff who talked to him about it for a long time – added Probierz.
Touchstone says it straight. “We showed character”
Finally, the coach of the Polish team returned to the clash with Austria, where, with the score at 1-1, it seemed that the Polish team could even fight for victory. Meanwhile, fatal mistakes resulted in the opponent winning 3-1.
– It’s a pity that we didn’t play more aggressively in defense against Austria. We made a few mistakes. Today, this defense looks more stable. It was able to eliminate the French advantages. I know that we still lack certain elements to make it look better – assessed the coach of the Polish national team.
Although Poland did not win against France, Probierz sees advantages after this match and the entire tournament. He realizes that this is only the beginning of a journey that the national team must travel.
– I definitely wanted to win and I’m not entirely happy with the result, but I can be pleased with the way we were able to switch from the defensive phase to the offensive after receiving the ball. After the goal for 1:1 we had a few interesting actions, but we lacked better passes. However, the players should believe in themselves even more. It’s sad that we are out, but in the match against France we showed character and that we can play – concluded Probierz.
Group D, with the participation of the Polish national team, was won by Austria. Thanks to victories over the Netherlands and Poland, Ralf Rangnick’s team collected six points. France (5 points) and the Netherlands (4 points) also entered the knockout phase.
