Novak Djokovic drama in Paris! He will not defend his title at Roland Garros

Novak Djokovic heroically reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. However, he will not be able to play in it.

Novak Djokovic needed medical help during the fourth round match of Roland Garros against Francisco Cerundolo. The Serb was struggling with a knee injury. Ultimately, after a five-set battle, he advanced to the quarterfinals, but he emphasized at the press conference that he was not sure of his further appearances in Paris. On Tuesday, the organizers announced that the ATP ranking leader had withdrawn from the event.

Novak Djokovic is very unlucky in Paris

– I have been struggling with a minor knee injury for several weeks. It wasn't a big deal. In the second set I slipped and felt pain. I took a lot of painkillers, which started working in the fourth set, Djokovic emphasized right after the match against Cerundolo.

As the future showed, the trauma turned out to be insurmountable. Djokovic turned 37 in May and this season it is clear that the Polish Pesel is making its presence felt. The Serb is not in a good shape, and there are also health problems. During the Grand Slam event in Paris, Djokovic defended his title from a year ago. He came out of great trouble twice. First, he defeated Lorenzo Musetti after a five-set match, and then the previously mentioned Cerundolo also after a five-set match.

Both fights left a big mark on his body, and if we add the knee injury to the mix, the decision made by the Serbian tennis legend is not surprising.

Casper Ruud in the Roland Garros semi-final

Djokovic was scheduled to face Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. Due to the Serb's injury, the Norwegian representative automatically advances to the semi-finals. It is also known that Djokovic will lose his leading position in the ATP rankings. After the tournament in Paris, Jannik Sinner, who won this year's Australian Open, will reach the top. He still has a chance to win in the French capital. He has already reached the semi-finals.
