Numbers that many would envy him. Marek Papszun with great quality

Marek Papszun decided to return to Raków Częstochowa. His first term at the club was marked not only by trophies.

On Tuesday, we received official confirmation that Marek Papszun is returning to Raków Częstochowa. The soap opera that lasted for many months has ended. The trainer was tried out for many teams, including the Polish and Czech national teams. Ultimately, however, he did not decide to accept any offer, even if they were sent from renowned foreign clubs. Papszun decided to wait a while and after a year's break he will again sit on the bench of Raków, with whom he reached the top.

Marek Papszun with an excellent point average

During his first term in Raków, the 49-year-old led the team from 2016 to 2023. During this time, he went from the third level of the competition through the elite to the Polish championship. We remember his work not only because of the trophies, but also because of his great points. In total, under his leadership, the Częstochowa team played 288 matches in all competitions, of which they won 162, drew 63 and lost 59. Here the average point is 1.95 points/game.

If we only look at PKO Ekstraklasa, Papszun led Raków in 135 matches. In them, the team won 76 times, drew 28 times and lost 31 times. In this case we have an average of 1.9 points/game. These are numbers that many coaches can envy Papszun.

It is also telling that during the 2022/23 championship season, Medaliki finished the games with 75 points. This is definitely more than the two teams that fought for the title in the current campaign, because Jagiellonia and Śląsk, playing 34 games, reached the mark of 60 points with great difficulty.

Five Papszun trophies

Apart from the national championship, Raków Częstochowa, with a charismatic coach at the helm, won the Polish Cup twice and the Polish Super Cup twice. In the 2022/23 season, Raków even had a good chance for the double, but in the Polish Cup final it lost to Legia Warszawa after penalties.
