Polish footballers can get away with big money. Promotion to EURO 2024 worth millions

The Polish national team will fight for promotion to EURO 2024. Michał Probierz’s players will play in the play-offs. If they fail to participate in the tournament, the Polish Football Association will not earn tens of millions of zlotys from UEFA. Part of this amount is intended to go to football players.

The Polish national team had a very poor qualifying round. Thanks to their good position in the Nations League and the advancement of other countries, Michał Probierz’s players were guaranteed at least the play-offs in advance. The lifeline came in handy as the White and Reds did not gain automatic promotion.

In the fight for a place in the German tournament, Poles must first defeat the Estonians at home (winners of the D division of the Nations League), and then defeat the winner of the clash between Wales and Finland. The final duel, regardless of the rival, will take place on his/her home turf. Regardless of the circumstances, a possible defeat and failure to advance to EURO 2024 will be a huge slap in the face for Polish football.

The Polish national team may lose a lot by not advancing. It’s not just about the sporting aspect of performing at the event of the year. It is also worth mentioning the financial side of participating in the European Championships. As Zbigniew Boniek emphasized on Twitter, the promotion itself gives the Polish Football Association a financial injection of EUR 9.25 million (approximately PLN 42 million). As determined by the WP SportoweFakty portal, 25 percent of this amount would go to the players. The pool will be larger if, after advancing, the Poles go far in the tournament.

Each match win is worth a million or half a million (for a draw). Additionally, promotions to each round are rewarded. The winner of the entire EURO can win between EUR 25.5 and 28.5 million, depending on previous results. The total prize pool prepared by UEFA is PLN 331 million (PLN 1.432 billion).
