Polish general elected to an important position in NATO.  This is the first such situation in history

The Alliance Military Committee has elected a new chief of staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s Communications and Information Technology Agency in a secret ballot. The General Staff of the Polish Army published a communiqué.

The army announced that Brigadier General Krzysztof Kociuba became the head of the NCI Agency – NCIA. This was decided by representatives of 32 member states. In addition to the Polish general, there were also candidates from Italy, France and the Netherlands.

Brig. Gen. Kociuba will soon start serving in a new position

NATO’s deputy director for communications and information technology in Brussels will begin his three-year term as head of the NCI Agency in March 2025. The Polish Army emphasizes that Brig. Gen. Kociuba is “the first Polish general to hold this position.”

In the past he served in the SFOR mission (NATO Stabilization Force) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) in Afghanistan. Between 2017 and 2019, he was the deputy head of the Command and Communication Support Directorate at the General Command of the Armed Forces. Two years later – in 2021 – he became Coordinator Counselor at the National Cyberspace Security Center.

The Chief of Staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s Communications and Information Technology Agency speaks several languages ​​- the message mentions English, French, Russian and German. An important moment in Kociuba’s career was the beginning of March 2021, when he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general.

What role does the agency headed by Brig. Gen. actually have in NATO? Cat? “It provides advanced command, control, communications, computing, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technology to support Alliance decision-makers and missions, including addressing new threats and challenges such as potential cyber and missile attacks,” we read. However, this is only part of NCIA’s tasks.
