Reconstruction of the Saxon Palace. Sikorski talks about the investment in the context of reparations

Radosław Sikorski commented on the issue of reparations in the German media. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs talked about a package that would convince Polish society.

The issue of repairs from Germany appears regularly in public debate. The matter became famous in September 2022, when the report was presented at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. It calculated the losses suffered by our country as a result of Germany’s aggression and occupation during World War II. The sum was estimated at over PLN 6 trillion. Jarosław Kaczyński then stated that the Polish government would demand reparations in this amount from Germany.

The Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs was asked about plans to continue this mission by “Der Spiegel” journalists. – Germans have flawed memories. They remember the Holocaust, the blockade of Leningrad and Stalingrad. However, they forgot what they did to the Polish civilian population, said Radosław Sikorski, adding that the matter should start with the German government preparing a package which – as he explained – will convince Polish public opinion and show that Germany is ready to deal with this issue.

What about the issue of reparations from Germany? Sikorski comments

What did the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs mean? In his opinion, it could be a project to rebuild the Saxon Palace or finance medical care for war survivors, as well as an investment in the defense capabilities of both countries in order to oppose Putin.

The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage announced on January 19 that the management board of the Pałac Saski company was dismissed by the decision of Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz. The head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage argued that the decision resulted from “concern for the correct spending” of public funds intended for the investment.

Sienkiewicz then recalled that the Act on the reconstruction of the Saxon Palace, Brühl Palace and tenement houses on Królewska Street obliged to rebuild the Palace.
