The city authorities in Croatia have made a decision. They are introducing restrictions that will also affect tourists

Summer 2024 in one of the Croatian cities may be completely different for tourists than before. The authorities of Pula have decided to introduce certain restrictions on the beach. This will affect both residents and visitors.

Summer 2023 was different in many ways than previous seasons. Tourists returned to traveling in droves, which meant that many places were crowded and limits were introduced to somewhat normalize the situation. Some beaches in Italy have introduced restrictions on the number of visitors per day, and a reservation system has been launched. Croatia is preparing completely different changes for visitors. The council of one of the local cities has decided.

Croatian city introduces restrictions

The Croatian city of Pula, located on the Adriatic Sea, bans nudism and alcohol consumption on its beaches. These types of changes will affect not only the city’s residents, but also the guests who come here to relax.

During the Pula City Council debate, 11 people voted in favor of introducing such bans. 7 people were against and 2 abstained from voting, which resulted in the introduction of changes.

This decision caused various reactions. One councilor, Dušica Radojčić, expressed concerns about the nudism ban. She emphasized the lack of legal justification for such a solution. She also pointed out Pula’s long-standing tradition of bathing naked or partially naked on beaches designated for this purpose. Radojčić argued that the decision stigmatized nudism as morally unacceptable. She added that people do not come naked to city beaches or to the city itself.

Regarding the ban on drinking alcohol on beaches, the nature of alcohol covered by the new rule raises doubts. Beer and wine are allowed, but gin, for example, is not.

What do you think about it? Are such regulations necessary?
