The French don't want to watch Iga Świątek? The Polish woman's reaction says a lot

The fans did not flock to Iga Świątek's match en masse. At the press conference after the match with Marketa Vondrousova, the Pole referred to the empty seats during her match.

Iga Świątek easily defeated another rival during Roland Garros. So far, only Naomi Osaka has set difficult conditions for her, being a tiny step away from a sensational elimination. In clashes with Anastasia Potapova or Marketa Vondrousova, only the Pole had a say on the court. In the quarterfinals, the Czech won only two games in the second set. In the first one, the first rocket in the world won another bagel.

Iga Świątek appreciates Polish fans

The player from Raszyn is storming through her beloved tournament. To the surprise of experts, not all of its matches feature full crowds. Although the clash between the Pole and the Czech was a duel between the first and sixth rackets in the world, empty seats could easily be seen in the stands of the facility in the French capital. The leader of the WTA ranking did not attract the full set. It can be suspected that this will change in the coming days.

After the match against Vondrousova, Świątek was asked about the fans in the stands and the places mentioned. The Polish woman's initial reaction was very cold. The player, born in 2001, said she was not at all interested in what was happening in the stands. After a while, she reflected, adding that she appreciated the presence of fans from her homeland.

— I don't look at the stands, it doesn't matter to me. I honestly don't care what happened in the stands, said Świątek. – I mean, I'm glad that Poles came, they sang so loudly that it was impossible not to hear them. But everyone can watch what they want. Although it would be nice if fans came to both women's and men's matches – added the best tennis player in the world quoted by Przegląd Sportowy Onet.
