The latest WTA ranking is surprising. Iga Świątek is losing more and more points to Aryna Sabalenka

The latest WTA ranking may surprise. Despite not playing, Aryna Sabalenka increased her advantage over Iga Świątek. This is what the current table looks like.

Recently, we haven’t seen either Iga Świątek or Aryna Sabalenka (9,381 points) on the courts, and yet both players lost points in the latest WTA ranking. Last week, after winning the WTA 1000 in Beijing, Iga Świątek’s loss (8,545 points) was 590 points. Currently, the difference between the Polish woman and the Belarusian woman is 836 points.

Why did Aryna Sabalenka gain an advantage over Iga Świątek?

This is because the WTA rankings include results from the last year. The number of points earned in tournaments in the previous season is added if a tennis player advances in the tournament, or subtracted if he does not play in the tournament or is eliminated early. Meanwhile, in 2022, the Raszynka player lost the final in Ostrava and won the tournament in San Diego, which this year was held on September 11-17, 2023. As for Sabalenka, she was eliminated in the second round of the competition in Moscow.

Iga Świątek will have a chance to return to first place in the WTA ranking between October 29 and November 5. The Pole will take part in the WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, where the eight best tennis players of the current season will perform.

Other Polish women in the WTA ranking

The American Coco Gauff took the lowest place on the podium with 6,455 points. The remaining players in the WTA TOP 10 also maintained their positions. Jessica Pegula (6,050) is fourth, followed by Jelena Rybakina (5,870), Maria Sakkari (4,475), Ons Jabeur (4,195), Marketa Vondrousova (3,839), Karolina Muchova (3,663) and Caroline Garcia (3,450).

As for other Polish representatives, there are only two tennis players in the top hundred – Magda Linette, who remained in 23rd place, and Magdalena Fręch, 69th WTA. The next member of the White and Reds is Katarzyna Kawa, who ranks 217th. Weronika Falkowska (321st WTA) and Maja Chwalińska (372nd WTA) are in the fourth hundred.
