The wheel was punctured during take-off, but the decision was made to land anyway. The damaged plane blocked the runway of the Belarusian airport.

The pilots of the plane flying from Istanbul to Minsk had to decide to land despite a wheel failure. The problematic flight occurred on November 1. According to Belarusian media, after landing the plane blocked the runway for many hours and the passengers were evacuated.

The problem with the wheel was noticed at the start

“The Belavia airlines passenger plane flying on the Istanbul-Minsk route, despite technical problems, landed successfully in the capital of Belarus. The crew analyzed the situation and decided to go to the destination domestic airport in Minsk,” the press release of the Belarusian carrier reported.

According to Flightradar24 data, flight BRU784 arrived at Minsk airport at 22:05 after a delay of over an hour. Already after the Boeing took off from Istanbul International Airport at 4:44 p.m., the services knew they were dealing with a serious fault. Ground workers at the Turkish airport, after inspecting the runway, reported to the tower possible problems with the landing gear of the taking off 737-MAX 8 plane. According to the spokesman, the landing of the plane with a broken wheel was successful, and the passengers and crew on board did not suffer any injuries.

The plane landed in Minsk despite the problems

These types of failures do not always have to mean a disaster. The case of the Dreamliner with 300 people on board confirms that the plane can land even without a wheel. The situation in Minsk had a similar ending. The Boeing managed to land safely, although it was not without problems. The lack of a working wheel caused the machine to struggle to move, making it impossible to clear the lane and park in the designated zone. Passengers were evacuated to the terminal, and the plane was towed only after a few hours. As a result of the incident, the Pobeda flight to Moscow could not leave Minsk on time. Another plane had to use an alternate airport in Gomel to land safely. “In accordance with applicable regulations, an investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the destruction of the left main landing gear wheel,” Belavia said.
