Stephen Boyer is one of the biggest stars of PlusLiga in recent seasons. The volleyball player first played for Jastrzębski Węgiel, and since last year he has been a player of Asseco Resovia Rzeszów. The Frenchman was slowly getting ready to fight with the Tricolor team. However, he suffered a serious injury during the quarterfinals of PlusLiga against Trefl Gdańsk.

The PlusLiga star received painful news

The Rzeszów team had to cope without Boyer until the end of the season. Additionally, they did not have the right to use a medical transfer, which meant they competed weakly in the semi-finals and the bronze medal series. Ultimately, Resovia finished the season with the CEV Cup, but without a league medal.

Boyer continued to recover for a long time after the season ended. He trained with the youth team while the seniors started competing in the Nations League. The volleyball player told plusliga.pl that he would be ready to fight for the Olympics, but Andrea Giani, the national team coach, told him that he did not see him in the plans for the rest of the season. The attacker was devastated by this decision. He had to digest it for a long time.

– There are still six weeks left until the Olympics, so there is no fear that I would not be able to prepare for this tournament in good shape and be ready to play at 100%. The coach simply admitted that he is satisfied with the team he currently has and how the team is performing. So he called to tell me that I wouldn’t be on the team this year, Boyer said. – Disappointment? That’s putting it mildly. For me personally, it’s a total disaster, but on the other hand, it’s also a kind of motivation, because I can’t wait for the new season to start, the 27-year-old added about his feelings.

The volleyball player now wants to prepare as best as possible for the new PlusLiga season with Asseco Resovia Rzeszów. Boyer was part of Laurent Tillie’s golden squad that won the Olympic tournament in Tokyo.
