Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is demanding compensation of EUR 100,000 after pornographic films with her image created using the deepfake technique were posted online. This is a situation in which another person's face is digitally added to the body of one person. The head of the Italian government is to testify in this case on July 2, the BBC reported.

An investigation is being conducted against a 40-year-old man who probably produced the films and his 73-year-old father. The police emphasized that they managed to find them thanks to tracking the mobile device used to publish the videos.

The 73-year-old proposed that the case against him be closed in exchange for community service, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. A decision on this matter is expected to be made next week.

According to the indictment, the pornographic videos were published on one of the American websites offering this type of content, where they were viewed “millions of times” over several months. This happened before Meloni became Prime Minister of Italy.

Meloni's lawyer, Maria Giulia Marongiu, commented that the sum would be “symbolic” and that the compensation would be “a signal to women who were victims of this type of practice and were afraid to press charges.”
