Russian Ambassador Sergei Andreev was summoned to the headquarters of our Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was told that the Russian authorities should take responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny and conduct a full investigation into the matter.

Last Friday, February 16, Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny died in the Polar Wolf penal colony in Siberia. Let us recall that in a fake trial he was sentenced to 19 years in prison for alleged extremist activities.

Andreyev summoned to the carpet at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

There is no doubt that Navalny was a victim of revenge from Vladimir Putin. It is worth noting that Navalny’s relatives have not only not been handed over the body, but have not even been allowed to see it in the mortuary.

On Tuesday, February 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the ministry’s headquarters at al. Szucha in Warsaw, the Russian ambassador, Sergei Andreev, was summoned.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the Russian authorities to take responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny and conduct a full and transparent investigation to determine the circumstances and cause of his death,” the ministry’s statement reads.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The number of political prisoners in Russia is increasing

It was emphasized that Navalny was another victim of the Kremlin satrap. It is worth adding that in 2006, opposition journalist Anna Politkovskaya was shot dead in Moscow, and in 2015, opposition politician Boris Nemtsov was killed in the same circumstances.

“Together with the democratic international community, Poland is observing with concern the growing number of political prisoners in Russia, many of whom are detained in penal colonies in difficult conditions that threaten their health and life. Among them are the leading activists of the Russian opposition, including: Vladimir Kara-Murza or Ilya Yashin,” we read further in the statement.

MFA: Complete rejection of moral norms

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that while serving his sentence, Navalny was subjected to unjustified disciplinary measures, in particular he was repeatedly placed in solitary confinement.

“Navalny’s death and previous inhuman treatment are symptomatic of the Russian authorities’ treatment of political prisoners, oppositionists and human rights defenders. This is inconsistent with democratic standards and constitutes a violation of their civil rights. The authorities of the Russian Federation demonstrate a complete rejection of moral norms not only in the context of dealing with domestic civil society, but also in the ongoing war against Ukraine,” the statement continues.
