There is a decision of the Sejm regarding shopping Sundays. Not everyone will be happy

Bad news for consumers.  It's about the prices of products in stores

The Parliament rejected the motion to discontinue work on amending the Sunday Trading Act, which means further work on introducing two commercial Sundays each month.

The draft amendment, submitted by the MPs of Poland 2050 in March, provides for double remuneration for work on Sunday and the obligation to designate a day off within 6 days before or after a working Sunday.

The Parliament rejected the motion to discontinue work on amending the Sunday Trading Act, which means further work on introducing two commercial Sundays each month.

During the debate on June 13, the PiS and Left clubs requested the rejection of the project, while KO, PSL-TD, Polski 2050-TD and Konfederacja supported sending the project to the committee. The Sejm decided to continue its work.

The Sunday trading ban has been in force since 2018, and from 2020, trading is only allowed on seven selected Sundays a year.

The Act provides for 32 exemptions, including for postal activities, confectionery shops, ice cream parlors, gas stations, flower shops, newsagents and cafes. Penalties for violating the ban range from PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000. PLN and a penalty of restriction of liberty for persistent violation of the regulations.

When are the next shopping Sundays? On Sunday, June 30, stores will be open. The next shopping Sundays are August 25, December 15, and December 22, 2024.

Do you support the introduction of two trading Sundays a month?

What do Poles think about two shopping Sundays? The SW Research agency checked this in a survey for “Wprost”. It turns out that this option has clearly more supporters than opponents. When asked “Do you support the introduction of two shopping Sundays a month?”, 56% of respondents answered affirmatively. 30.1% of respondents do not want such a solution, while almost 14% of respondents have no opinion on the matter.
