These private loans were asking for trouble. Nearly one hundred victims

A couple from Tychy was charged with over 100 charges for offering a loan via the Internet, with no intention of fulfilling the contract. The criminal operation lasted over half a year.

The Department for Combating Economic Crime of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Tychy, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Tychy, conducted an investigation into the unfavorable disposal of the property of a number of people. Two people from Tychy – a 27-year-old man and his 27-year-old partner – offered loans from a private person via the Internet, misleading the victims as to their intention and ability to fulfill the contract.

Fraudulent loan offers

The detainees' actions consisted of posting advertisements offering loans on various social networking groups. People interested in taking out a loan contacted fraudsters via the application, setting the alleged terms of granting the loan. Then, the injured parties provided their details in order to prepare a contract and made cash payments to various suspects' accounts in amounts ranging from PLN 10 to PLN 300 – the amount depended on previous arrangements.

After making the payment, the victims were blocked on the messenger by the perpetrators of the crime, and the victims did not receive the loan or the refund of the money paid. A couple from Tychy turned this criminal activity into a permanent source of income.

During the analyses, police officers dealing with economic crime determined that the couple committed fraud in the period from January to July 2023 and during this period committed 102 fraud crimes. As a result of investigation activities, it turned out that nearly 100 people were harmed, and the profit obtained by the fraudsters amounted to over PLN 10,000. An indictment was filed against the perpetrators of the crimes described. They face a penalty of up to 8 years in prison.
