After many years of oblivion, grain coffee is coming back into favor again. We are eager to reach for it again – no wonder, it has a number of beneficial properties for our health.

Cereal coffee used to be a must-have in the morning. Both children and adults drank it. This drink also appears in my childhood memories. Some time ago I remembered about it and started drinking grain coffee again. It is not only a soothing way to start the day, but also has a great effect on the body. Many grain coffee lovers also appreciate it as an alternative to classic coffee during relaxing afternoons – it does not have a stimulating effect, so you can safely drink it at such an hour.

What are the beneficial properties of grain coffee?

Grain coffee is still very popular. It has many valuable nutrients that have a positive effect on the condition of our entire body. It is obtained from roasted cereal seeds, such as rye, wheat, spelled or barley. This drink is a good source of magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, but also zinc, iron and vitamin B. Most importantly, unlike classic coffee, it is caffeine-free, which is also beneficial to our health. It is therefore a perfect drink for people who are looking for an alternative to traditional coffee. Additionally, it does not contain strong stimulants and is therefore not addictive.

Grain coffee may have a positive impact on gut health through its prebiotic effects, supporting healthy bacterial flora in the digestive tract. This is due to the fact that it is usually enriched with chicory, which contains inulin – a compound with prebiotic properties. Such coffee also contains compounds from the polyphonenel group, which have antioxidant properties.

Why is it worth drinking grain coffee?

It is worth drinking grain coffee not only because of its great taste. Drinking it has a number of health benefits. First of all, it provides our body with a large dose of dietary fiber. It is so important because it regulates intestinal function, helps reduce constipation and flatulence, but also makes it easier to maintain proper body weight. Consequently, fiber also reduces the feeling of hunger and supports intestinal peristalsis. Such coffee is also an excellent option, for example, for people suffering from heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux.

However, drinking grain coffee regularly has many more benefits – one of them is that it can help reduce the level of bad cholesterol in the blood (this is due to the ability to bind fatty acids in the intestine). Additionally, because it does not contain caffeine, it does not increase blood pressure. It also supports the functioning of the nervous system and soothes irritations of the digestive mucosa. Remember that such grain coffee should not be drunk by people who are allergic to cereal grains or suffer from celiac disease. However, it has a low glycemic index, so diabetics can safely consume it.
