Personnel changes at BGK

The supervisory board of BGK currently consists of 10 people, including prof. Gertruda Uścińska, who was dismissed from the position of president of the Social Insurance Institution on Wednesday (we will learn the name of the new president in a few days). Paweł Borys, who is also the president of the Polish Development Fund, remains the chairman of the council.

Beata Daszyńska-Muzyczka has been associated with BGK since 2016, when she joined BZ WBK bank (currently Santander). She is a graduate of economic universities, specializing in corporate financial management, and the Advance Leadership Program at ICAN Institute. She also graduated from the University of Cambridge – Judge Business School.

What is Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego?

BGK is not a commercial bank, but a development bank. Its task is to support the sustainable socio-economic development of the country.

“We respond to the main development challenges in the most important areas of the economy, cooperate with the market and stabilize it, and adapt our activities to emerging needs, trends and market challenges through the pillars of BGK’s strategy and programs. We initiate and develop cooperation between business, the public sector and financial institutions to counteract the negative effects of the cyclical economy,” we read on the website of this institution.

Gertruda Uścińka is no longer the president of ZUS

The change at BGK is part of a larger personnel shake-up, which could be expected after the election won by the Civic Coalition. The Government Information Center announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Donald Tusk dismissed Gertruda Uścińska from the position of president of the Social Insurance Institution. This was requested by the Minister of Family, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

Professor Uścińska had not previously held any political position and came to ZUS as a specialist in a narrow field. She hoped that she was perceived not as a political person but as an independent professional. For this reason, yesterday’s decision to cancel surprised her, as she said in an interview with “Fakt”.

– I have never hidden the fact that I am, above all, a pro-state person, a manager reforming a public institution – she said. She emphasized that over the years she had managed to sort out many matters at the Social Insurance Institution “both internally and externally”, and the effect of her actions was to increase Poles’ trust in the activities of ZUS.
