Unusual fish on the beach! This specimen is over two meters tall

In the state of Oregon in the north-west of the USA, the waves of the Pacific Ocean washed up on the beach an unusual fish. Many people came from far away to see the 2.3-meter sunfish.

The rare animal was seen last week on a beach near Seaside, Oregon. Sunfish species live mainly in tropical waters, possibly in temperate zones in the southern hemisphere. In recent years, however, they have been venturing further and further north. They appear in the Mediterranean and North Seas, and even reach the Baltic Sea.

The largest specimen of Mola tecta?

However, New Zealand researcher Mariann Nyegaard pointed out that the fish from Oregon is not the most common Mola mola, but a representative of the species Mola tecta. As the discoverer of the species itself, Nyegaard said last week's specimen may have been the largest ever seen.

Onlookers from far away came to the beach to see the unusual fish. It is possible that they will be able to admire it for some time. Its skin is very thick, making it difficult for scavengers to get to its meat.
