The head of the Slovak government remains in hospital in Banská Bystrica. The director of the facility provided the latest information about Robert Fico's health condition.

Robert Fico is recovering after Wednesday's attempt on his life. The Prime Minister of Slovakia is in hospital. Roosevelt in Banská Bystrica. During Friday's press conference, the country's minister of national defense said that the head of government had undergone another operation that lasted less than two hours. Robert Kaliňák said that Robert Fico's condition is stable, but still very serious.

In his opinion, there is evidence that the first operation was performed correctly. The Deputy Prime Minister assured that the progress of their activities was visible. – Thank you to the hospital's medical team. The patient is fully conscious, Kaliňák said.

The director of the hospital in Banská Bystrica explained that the doctors decided to perform another operation based on the computed tomography image. They attempted to remove the necrotic tissue that remained from the gunshot wound. She confirmed that Fic's condition was stable and the Prime Minister was conscious.

Robert Fico was attacked after an away government meeting in Handlova. A 71-year-old man shot the Prime Minister of Slovakia. He allegedly fired five shots in total. Three of them hit Robert Fico's stomach and arm, two were missed.

The attack on Robert Fico caused an avalanche of comments among Slovak politicians, but also among leaders of other countries. “I am shocked by the assassination of Prime Minister Robert Fico. The cruelty of this attack is unimaginable. My thoughts and prayers are with Robert Fico, his family and the Slovak nation,” wrote President Andrzej Duda. “Shocking news from Slovakia. Robert, my thoughts are with you at this very difficult moment,” commented Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
