President Andrzej Duda signed a decision to order elections to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Senate of the Republic of Poland. He set the election date for October 15.

By decision of August 8, 2023, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, ordered elections to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Senate of the Republic of Poland. The elections will be held on Sunday, October 15.

The president had only four possible dates to choose the day of the vote. We could go to the polls on October 15, October 22, October 28 or November 5. Andrzej Duda signed a decision to order elections to the Sejm and the Senate as soon as possible, on October 15.

“The future of Poland is a matter for each of us! Use your rights!” – encouraged the president to take part in the vote.

The date of the parliamentary elections has recently become the subject of discussion on the opposition side. This holiday was adopted by the Sejm in 2005 as an expression of gratitude, spiritual connection with John Paul II and the promotion of his teaching.

At the end of June, in an interview with Radio Zet, Andrzej Duda himself said that “there is a very high probability that the elections to the Sejm and Senate will take place in October”, and called October 15 “a very nice date”.

According to the constitution, the president must order parliamentary elections no later than 90 days before the end of four years from the beginning of the current term of office of the Sejm and Senate. Formally, the head of state had until next Monday, August 14, to announce his decision.
