Although PiS is the poll leader before the elections, the “visa scandal” may weaken its credibility. What do voters think about the effects of the investigation into this matter?
The IBRIS survey for “Rzeczpospolita” checked what Poles think about the visa scandal’s impact on the election results and a possible third term of office of PiS. Almost 1/3 of respondents believe that reports about the corrupt nature of granting visas will harm the ruling party. 39.7 percent respondents have the opposite opinion – according to them, the scandal will not affect PiS’s result in the elections. Interestingly, as many as 21.4 percent respondents had not heard anything about this case.

The voters of the opposition (46%) and Confederation (37%), but also 20%, are convinced that the investigation into this practice will harm the ruling party. voting for PiS.
The “visa scandal” became famous when the deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Piotr Wawrzyk, was dismissed in unclear circumstances. Prime Minister Morawiecki admitted that the deputy minister’s dismissal is the result of an investigation by the services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Rzeczpospolita” found that the key intermediary in the accelerated processing of visas, according to the prosecutor’s office, was 25-year-old Edgar K. He was an associate of the dismissed deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Piotr Wawrzyk. The bribes were allegedly paid by an Indian businessman from Warsaw, Saikat B. In April 2023, Edgar K. was charged with paid patronage. On September 8, the CBA detained further suspects in the case – Monika R., Mariusz G. and Krzysztof P. The investigation is ongoing.
As Joanna Miziołek wrote in “Wprost”, the visa scandal significantly weakens the image of the ruling party before the elections.
– I am furious with Rau for keeping Wawrzyk in his diplomacy. He harmed us in the campaign. Besides, he was not suitable for diplomatic work. He was nicknamed flightless because he was afraid of flying. There were famous anecdotes about him when he traveled farthest to the Visegrad group countries – one of the PiS staffers told us.
