Wojciech Szczęsny spoke about the end of his career. "Such a decision is made once"

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny will not play in the Poland-France match that closes Poland’s participation in Euro 2024. In front of TVP Sport cameras, the player said what’s next with his national team career.

Interestingly, contrary to earlier media reports, Wojciech Szczęsny has not yet made a final decision. In a conversation with Maja Strzelczyk from TVP Sport, on the pitch of the stadium in Dortmund, where the match between Poland and France will be played, the goalkeeper admitted directly what is currently happening in the context of his future in the national team.

Let’s add that during Monday’s press conference, Robert Lewandowski himself admitted that he hopes that Szczęsny will continue to be a goalkeeper playing in the national team. The interested party himself also commented on the captain’s words.

– No one is lying. Because I don’t hide the fact that I have always tried to plan my career carefully. My plans included finishing playing football next year. At the moment I don’t know what it will look like. It is a bit beyond my control. I understand that someone is trying to convince me to change my mind, wanting me to play football longer. I am not able to declare that I am finishing. Because such a decision is made once and you have to think it through carefully. I am not promising anything now – admitted Szczęsny.

Poland – France. The last match of the Poles at the European Championships in Germany

The Poles ended up in Group D, which was full of top-class opponents. In addition to the vice-world champions, the French, the Poles also faced the Dutch (a 1:2 defeat) and the Austrians (1:3 in the second round of games). However, coach Michał Probierz has been consistently implementing his plan, which involves rejuvenating the team and creating successors to figures such as Kamil Glik and Grzegorz Krychowiak from years ago.

Łukasz Skorupski replaced Szczęsny between the posts in the clash with the French. A goalkeeper who has been playing in Serie A for years, with a lot of experience, he has the makings of Szczęsny’s successor if he were to finally part ways with the Polish national team.
